Executive Director

Bellingham Childcare and Learning Center (BCLC) is seeking an Executive Director to oversee our early learning program and staff. BCLC is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that has served our Whatcom County community for over 50 years. Our mission is to provide high quality early learning and support to young children, and to provide access to a diversity of families through subsidized care and our tuition assistance program. BCLC partners with Early Achievers to ensure continued program quality. Some of our core values include play-based learning, teacher education, and engaging with families in learning and development. We are looking for an experienced, dedicated individual to guide our center to continued excellence in the field of early childhood education.

Pay: $30-$36/Hour

Schedule: Full-time, M-F approximately 8:30 A.M- 5:00 P.M. (40 hours/week)

 Location: On site in Bellingham, WA with occasional off-site duties

Position Summary 

Program Management: Lead and support the program and staff to sustain a high-quality early

learning environment based on developmentally and culturally appropriate practices. Maintain

licensing standards, NAEYC best practices, and Early Achievers Quality Rating and

Improvement System.

 

Staff Development: Hire and onboard staff. Oversee required training and professional

development, staff meetings, scheduling, and day-to-day communications.

BCLC Administration: Manage BCLC budget and payroll, comply with regulations, and

oversee fiscal responsibilities. Manage BCLC’s website, Bright Wheel app, and social media

accounts.

 

Advocacy: Communicate with families regarding their children and invite engagement.

Participate in BCLC Board meetings and provide program updates. Build relationships with

community partners and seek opportunities for grant funding.

 

Skills and Abilities 

·       Strong communication skills for interacting with children, families, staff, board, and community partners.

·       Experience managing budgets and financial responsibilities.

·       Familiarity with technology in the workplace, Google, Microsoft products, and

·       QuickBooks.

·       Ability to work collaboratively and empathetically with others. 

 

Education and Experience

·       Associate degree in early childhood education or related field (required)

·       Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education or related field (preferred)

·       Two years of experience in a related field with management responsibilities (required)

·       Two years of experience in educational leadership (preferred)

 

Requirements and Physical Demands 

·       Reliable transportation for occasional off-site duties.

·       Required vaccinations, including MMR, COVID-19, and TB Test.

·       Current background check

·       CPR/First Aid

·       This role involves walking, standing, lifting (up to 50 lbs.), and frequent computer use.

BCLC Part-Time Substitute Teacher

We are looking for part time and substitute teachers interested in growing alongside our infant, toddler, and preschool children. If open scheduling and a position is available, full time is a possibility.

Ensure the safety and well being of the children in your classroom through careful supervision. Form a partnership with parents to promote the growth and development of their children.

A qualified candidate will have or be in the process of obtaining a degree or certificate in Early Childhood Education or related field and experience working with children in group care.

Candidates will possess or obtain upon hiring: a portable background check in MERIT, negative TB test, MMR inoculation, First Aid & CPR, Food Handlers card and STARS 30 hr. Basics in Childcare (or equivalent).

Compensation starts at $17.28 depending on the number of early childhood education college

credits such as Special Education or K-12 credits the candidate possesses. Full time positions, and after a probationary period, are eligible for benefits (medical & dental after 60 days, vacation pay after 90 days, & retirement after 1 year).

Part time Assistant Teachers

Monday - Friday

Hours would range between: 1:00 pm to 5:30pm (depending on shifts)

Helping supervise, and implement a program of developmentally appropriate activities to meet the social, emotional, physical, and intellectual needs of the children in your care.
